Paul Oakenfold is probably one of the most sought-after DJ's in today's music scene, and he's put together an extremely well-produced and slick album that I really, really like. This album is meant to be listened to at club-thumping volume levels, and his wall-of-sound style will drench you with complex, anthem-style club tunes.
If you are a hard-core raver or clubber, or a fan of his previous works, some of these songs may not do it for you. He's definitely aiming for a broader audience with this album, and I think he's succeeded. Several songs are fairly mellow, or have subtle tonality moments that obviously don't play well in a high-energy night club. Don't fret, he'll make it up on the next one, with tunes that gets your hips moving like a soul train dancer!
If you aren't into buying whole albums, my picks would be:
- Switch On
- Set It Off
- Praise the Lord
- Vulnerable
Let me know if you enjoyed this album!
