Little Big Planet 2!

You may remember that one of the first stories that appeared on my (revived) blog was the ones about my pursuit of a Playstation 3 merely to play Little Big Planet. I bought the PS3 solely for this game, and I continue to play it with my daughter on a regular basis.

You can imagine my fanboy joy when I discovered that they were releasing a sequel to the wonderful world of Sackboy, and better yet, a collector's edition of LBP2!!

My Latest Distraction: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

I've been a fan of Rogue for a long, long time. For those unfamiliar with Rogue, it is generally credited as being the first graphics-based video game, though at the time of it's release in 1980 on UNIX, it used regular ASCII characters as the "graphics" (see the attached image example from wikipedia.org) and obviously, we've come a long way since then.

Where the "Magic" Happens

This is my latest setup, completed this past weekend. Two monitors, keyboards and mice, so I can "work" side-by-side on my Linux box and Gaming rig. which are stacked to the right of my desk. That's a Korg M1 and just out of the frame, an old Roland MT-32, which I bought way back when they made games that actually output midi streams as a soundtrack. Sound cards were only just starting to appear at that time.

Unplugged Review: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat

The third release in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, "Call of Pripyat" is set in the same world as was first set up in the "Shadow of Chernobyl" game released in 2007. SoC was (and still is) one of my all-time favorite PC games, but for some reason, I missed picking up the second in the series "Clear Skies". According to the reviews, it was probably fortunate that I did, as it was not received nearly as well as the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. Regardless of #2's (lack of) success, CoP marks a triumphant return for the series.

Mmmmm...Fallout: New Vegas

I am totally looking forward to this game! I played FO3 for many, many hours and I suspect there were parts of the game I still hadn't seen. I am planning a re-install of this game on my new rig, just to see how far I can push the settings with the new CPU and GPU. It won't hurt that the graphics in FO3 were amazing (once you got over the apocalyptic palette!) and there was a ton of replayability in the game itself.
